NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling team, which is tied for fourth in InterMat’s preseason poll and ranked fifth in the first coaches poll, begins its 2013-14 home slate at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, as it welcomes Oklahoma City University to McCasland Field House.

The Sooners have six individually ranked wrestlers to begin the season, including two in the top spot of their weight classes. All six ranked wrestlers have also earned at least one All-America recognition in their careers.

Redshirt seniors Kendric Maple and Andrew Howe are pegged as the No. 1 wrestlers at 149 and 174 pounds, respectively.

Maple, who became OU’s first individual NCAA Champion in eight years after winning the title at 141 pounds last March, was an All-American in 2012 and 2013.

A three-time All-American and 2010 NCAA Champion, Howe is set to start his first season in the Crimson and Cream after redshirting last season following a transfer from Wisconsin.

Two redshirt seniors come into the season as the fifth-ranked wrestlers in their weight classes, with Jarrod Patterson at 125 pounds and Travis Rutt at 197 pounds. Both were All-Americans in 2011 and redshirted a season ago. Like Howe, this is Rutt’s first season to compete for OU after redshirting in 2012-13.

After earning the first All-America honors of his career last season, redshirt sophomore Cody Brewer begins the 2013-14 campaign as the No. 6 wrestler at 133 pounds. Nick Lester, who was an All-American in 2012, is ranked 13th in the 141-pound weight class.

OU’s lineup for Tuesday’s dual will be completed by redshirt junior Justin DeAngelis (157), redshirt freshman Clark Glass (165), freshman Stone Drulman (184) and redshirt freshman Ross Larson (HWT).

Last season, OU defeated OCU 38-3 to take a 7-0 advantage in the all-time series.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are still available for purchase. Season tickets and single-meet tickets are now on sale online or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free at (800) 456-GoOU.
