NORMAN – With the 2018 season just around the corner, the defending national champion Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team is ready to show off its routines at its annual intrasquad, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT Friday, Dec. 8, at the Sam Viersen Gymnastics Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The Sooners will perform full routines on all four events and be judged in front of fans. The first 100 fans will receive free pizza while supplies last. There will also be post-meet autographs available to those in attendance. Additionally, those who wish to purchase season tickets will have an opportunity to do so on-site. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to snag their seats and enjoy free pizza prior to the beginning of the meet.
OU’s roster this season includes 10 returners from the 2017 national championship squad, including four gymnasts who combined for 10 All-America honors in seniors Stefani Catour and A.J. Jackson, junior Nicole Lehrmann and sophomore Maggie Nichols. Lehrmann and Nichols were also co-national champions on the uneven bars in 2017.
In addition to the returners, the Sooners also add junior transfer Asley Hiller and freshmen Jordan Draper, Abigail Matthews, Evy Schoepfer, Anastasia Webb and Carly Woodard. All bring extensive experience at the national level to the table and multiple strong showings at regional and state competitions.
The Sam Viersen Gymnastics Center is located in Norman north of the Lloyd Noble Center by the intersection of S. Jenkins Ave. and Imhoff Ave. Parking is available across the street at the Lloyd Noble Center.
The Sooners will open the 2018 season at 1 p.m. CT on Monday, Jan. 15, in Athens, Ga. as they face Georgia in the first road contest of the season. The home slate opens on Jan. 21 at 2:45 p.m. CT against Iowa State and TWU in the annual Beauty and the Beast meet with OU Wrestling. Fans can snag season tickets to catch every moment of OU's exciting home slate, which also features contests against North Carolina (Feb. 11), West Virginia (Feb. 23), Michigan (March 3), and Arizona State, Arkansas, and Denver (March 9).
Season tickets for the 2018 campaign are currently available for purchase. Tickets cost $40 for general admission, $25 for youth and senior citizens and $60 for reserved seating, which will reserve a seat location for the entire season.
