Women's Tennis Kicks Off Fall Action
NORMAN – The Oklahoma women’s tennis team kicks off fall tournament play at the Oracle ITA Masters and the Rice Invitational beginning Thursday.
Senior Lily Miyazaki will compete at the Oracle ITA Masters tournament in Malibu, Calif., starting Thursday. Miyazaki was selected to represent the Big 12 Conference at the event, which invites one male and one female from each Division I Conference to participate in the 32-player singles draw.
Players are selected based on criteria similar to those used for NCAA Tournament bids and singles champions earn an automatic bid to the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in early November.
Miyazaki, a senior, enters the fall season ranked No. 19 in the ITA poll after a successful spring campaign.
Oklahoma also returns seniors Malene Stripp, Christie Brigante and Simran Sethi. The Sooners are joined by freshmen Nina Jabrzemski, a native of Norman, Okla., and Camila Romero from Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Stripp, Brigante, Sethi and Jabrzemski are slated to play at the Rice Invitational, beginning Friday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center at Rice University.
Romero played in the main draw at the ITF Lubbock 25k beginning September 16, where she was defeated in the first round by Hanna Chang.
