NORMAN – Oklahoma pitcher Mariah Lopez has made the final roster for the 2017 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team, USA Softball announced Thursday.

After a training camp in Clearwater, Fla., from July 17-22, Lopez and the other 16 members of the team will compete in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Women’s World Championship (JWWC), also in Clearwater, which takes place July 24-30.

Team USA was placed in Pool A with Turkey, Guatemala, South Africa, Italy, Philippines and Chinese Taipei. Countries finishing among the top two in the four respective pools will advance into the championship round-robin of two pools, while countries finishing third and fourth in pool play will be placed in a placement pool to determine 9th through 16th place.

For those teams finishing lower than fourth place in their respective pools, they will compete against each other in a single-elimination format for 17th through 26th place.

Live stats and a free video stream of the WBSC JWWC can be found on USASoftball.com.

Lopez appeared in two games last week for the JWNT at the World Cup of Softball XII in Oklahoma City as it finished in fifth-place despite being the only junior team at the tournament. She was 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA in 3.0 innings of work, coming on in relief in both appearances. She struck out two, walked one and allowed four runs(three earned) on six hits.

A native of Saugus, Calif., Lopez was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team and was a top-25 finalist for NFCA Freshman of the Year. She went 18-1 in her first season in Norman with a 2.08 earned run average and 109 strikeouts to just 18 walks in 101.0 innings pitched over 31 appearances and 21 starts.

Lopez threw two complete games and recorded two saves, tying for 10th in OU single-season history in the latter category. She ranked 33rd in the country in walk ratio (1.25 per 7 IP) and was 41st in both strikeout ratio (7.6 per 7 IP) and hits allowed per seven innings (4.99).

The winning pitcher in Game 2 of the WCWS Championship Series that saw OU win its second straight title, third in the last five years and fourth overall, Lopez also struck out six in 5.1 innings of relief vs. North Dakota State in an elimination game during the NCAA Regional.

The highlight of Lopez's season came on March 14 when she needed just 78 pitches to throw a no-hitter at Long Beach State. The performance helped earn her Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors.
