DALLAS – The No. 19 University of Oklahoma baseball team lost its fifth consecutive game to end an eight-game road swing, 16-10, against Dallas Baptist at Horner Ballpark on Tuesday night. The Sooners slipped to 27-13 overall, while the Patriots improved to 21-15.
Each side scored a pair of early runs with DBU striking first for two runs in the first inning; taking advantage of a leadoff-walk that set up a bases-loaded, no outs scenario. A hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice-fly brought in the two Patriot runs.
OU answered with two runs in the top of the second to tie the game. A leadoff-walk to sophomore center fielder Steele Walker (Prosper, Texas) and a single through the left side by senior first baseman Austin O’Brien (Owasso, Okla.) set the table. Senior right fielder Ben Hollas (Longview, Texas) then hit a RBI-single up the middle that was kept on the infield, but scored Walker from third. O’Brien then came in on a single to left by freshman shortstop Brandon Zaragoza (Moore, Okla.).
Dallas Baptist then put up three runs in the third, four in the fourth and three in the third. Each Dallas Baptist baserunner in the fourth reached after redshirt-senior lefty Austin Kerns (Owasso, Okla.), the third Sooner pitcher of the night, recorded two quick outs. The fifth started identical to the fourth as freshman RHP Braden Minor (Wichita, Kan.) recorded two quick outs before five straight batters reached on four hits and a hit batter.
Right-hander Kragen Kachely (3-0) got the win in a 1.2-inning relief appearance. First baseman Austin Listi reached base in all six plate appearances with a 4-for-4 day.
The Sooners, who went 1-7 on their road swing, return home on Friday, April 21 to take on Kansas at 6:30 p.m.
