Amy Sargeant — ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year
In her third year at OU, Sargeant guided the program to its most successful season since 2014. The Sooners tallied a 17-9 record, good for their most wins since 2014. OU also made its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2015 and advanced to the second round. Additionally, the Sooners compiled their best Big 12 record since 2014, as well as earning their first win over Baylor since 2014.
Under Sargeant’s tutelage, OU players earned a program-record four All-Big 12 selections in Oleksandra Korashvili, Camila Romero and Martina Capurro in singles and Capurro and Romero in doubles. Sargeant also guided Korashvili to Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors and a bid to the 2019 NCAA singles championships to mark the third straight season OU has sent a player to the tournament.
In 2019, Sargeant helped incorporate four new players into the lineup, including Korashvili and Capurro. Sargeant led Romero to a breakout sophomore season that saw a 17-8 record – Romero more than tripled her win count from five during her freshman season. Sargeant also guided the Sooners to another program-record five Big 12 Player of the Week accolades to lead the conference in selections this season.
Oleksandra Korashvili — ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year
In her first season of competition, Korashvili quickly made her presence known, compiling a 17-8 singles record and en route to an NCAA Singles Championships bid.
Korashvili tallied eight wins over ranked opponents, including a 4-1 mark against top 25 foes. The Odessa, Ukraine, native rose as high as No. 19 in the ITA singles rankings after breaking in at No. 60 in the first singles release of the season.
Korashvili was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year as well as an All-Big 12 singles first team honoree. A four-time Big 12 Player of the Week selection, she made history as OU’s first player to earn the weekly award since Whitney Ritchie in 2014; OU’s second player to be named Player of the Week multiple times in a season; and the first player in conference history to win it more than three times; and the only player to garner the award in three consecutive weeks.
Korashvili is set for the 2019 NCAA Singles Championships beginning May 20 in Orlando, Fla. Times and draws for the 64-player tournament, held at the USTA National Campus, will be announced at a later time.
