Llanusa Scores 35, OU Falls at No. 18 Iowa State

AMES, Iowa — Oklahoma women's basketball could not overcome No. 18/19 Iowa State's strong start as the Sooners fell, 104-78, inside the Hilton Coliseum.

Ana Llanusa led the Sooners (5-11, 1-4 Big 12) with a career-high 35 points, the most points scored by a Sooner in a single game since 2014. Llanusa was 8-of-18 from the field, knocked down four treys and finished 15-of-18 from the free throw line.

The sophomore's 35 points matched the most points scored by a Big 12 player this season and are the 15th-most scored by a Sooner in a single game. The Choctaw, Okla., native added five rebounds and four steals in 33 minutes off the bench. Llanusa's 15 made free throws set a career high and are the second most made by an OU player in a Big 12 game in school history.

Freshman Jessi Murcer matched her season-high with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Murcer hit a pair of triples and finished with four rebounds.

Tatum Veitenheimer chipped in nine points, seven rebounds and a team-high five assists. Senior Ijeoma Odimgbe logged a team-high 10 rebounds off the bench. 

Iowa State (14-4, 4-2 Big 12) knocked down 16 3-pointers, the most given up by the Sooners against a Big 12 opponent. The Cyclones posted a .493 clip from the field and  finished with a .471 3-point field goal percentage. The Sooners knocked down a season-high 30 free throws and finished with a .344 field goal percentage. 

The Cyclones jumped out to a 39-11 lead after the first quarter, hitting seven 3-pointers in the frame to build an early lead. 

Five Cyclones scored in double figures led by freshman Ashley Joens' 25 points. Joens knocked down six 3-pointers and and finished 8-of-13 from the floor. Madison Wise hit five treys to finish with 17 points, while adding eight rebounds.

Alexa Middleton and Meredith Burkall each added 14 points apiece. Bridget Carleton recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three blocks for the Cyclones.

Iowa State won the rebounding battle, 45-40, and scored 21 points off of 19 OU turnovers. The Sooners scored 43 bench points and recorded 10 steals.

The Sooners return to action on Tuesday as OU travels to Fort Worth to face TCU. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on FS1.
