Morris Awarded a Scholarship
NORMAN — There's nothing lucky about it. Lee Morris earned his scholarship.
Morris, who Kyler Murray called his "lucky charm" after Saturday's game, was officially awarded a scholarship Monday by head coach Lincoln Riley.
The redshirt junior wide receiver made a pair of big-impact plays in Oklahoma's season-opening 63-14 win over Florida Atlantic. He recorded OU's first blocked punt since 2013, which Curtis Bolton recovered for a touchdown (the Sooners' first punt recovery for a TD since 2002). Just minutes later, Morris hauled in a 65-yard touchdown reception, making a competitive catch across the middle, then dodging a pair of FAU tacklers before outracing a couple more to the end zone.
Though he has just three receptions in his career up to this point, Morris has made the most of them, scoring touchdowns on all three. Two of the three passes were thrown by Murray, his high school teammate.
When asked after the game Saturday if he was going to "have to" give Morris a scholarship at some point, Riley hinted this may be coming sooner rather than later.
"Not have to, I'm going to GET to at some point," he said.
