NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma men's basketball team is ranked No. 12 in the initial AP top-25 poll of the 2008-09 season, the sixth highest preseason AP poll rating in school history.

Friday's AP poll announcement comes one day after OU was ranked No. 14 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.

North Carolina claimed all 72 first-place votes and are followed in the top 11 by Connecticut, Louisville, UCLA, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Texas, Duke, Notre Dame, Gonzaga and Purdue.
The only seasons OU debuted higher than No. 12 in the AP poll were 1984-85 (No. 5), 1986-87 (No. 7), 1988-89 (No. 5), 2002-03 (No. 3) and 2005-06 (No. 6).
