NORMAN — Oklahoma freshman right-handed pitcher Ben Abram was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication announced Wednesday.

Abram becomes the sixth Freshman All-America selection for the Sooners in the last six seasons. The Georgetown, Ontario, native was a member of the Big 12 All-Freshman Team and went 6-4 with a 4.24 ERA in his debut season with the Sooners.

Abram was OU’s primary Tuesday starter throughout the season, though he also made four weekend starts including three in Big 12 play. He allowed just 16 walks in 63.2 innings and struck out 52 batters. He pitched at least 5.0 innings in seven starts and allowed two or fewer runs in eight starts this season.

Oklahoma has produced 18 Freshman All-America selections since 1997. Abram joins Levi Prater (2018), Jake Irvin (2016), Jacob Evans (2013), David Purcey (2002) and Austin Mix (2000) as OU freshman pitchers to be named Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman All-America selections.
