NORMAN — University of Oklahoma sophomore Nicole Molina was named Big 12 Rowing Newcomer of the Year, announced Wednesday by the conference.

“Nicole has done a great job this year,” said Oklahoma head coach Leeanne Crain.

“It's hard to believe that she started as a walk-on in September and ended up in the varsity eight at Big 12's. She's a super hard worker, disciplined in all aspects of her life and I'm looking forward to seeing her continued development in the sport over the next few years.”

Molina has seen action in numerous boats this season, but has consistently rowed in the five seat for the Sooners' first varsity eight and the three seat for OU's 1V4+.

The walk-on from Jenks, Okla., sat in the five seat for OU's first varsity eight at the 2019 Big 12 Championship, helping the boat finish second.

This is the third-straight Big 12 Newcomer of the Year award and fourth overall for the Sooners.
