ORLANDO – Alex Bakshi of the Oklahoma men’s tennis team is on to the round of 32 at the 2019 NCAA Tennis Singles Championships after a win over Arizona’s Jonas Ziverts. No. 41 Bakshi took down the No. 66-ranked Wildcat 7-6 (3), 6-4 at the USTA National Campus to earn his 15th win and 10th victory over a ranked opponent this season.

In the first set, Bakshi worked his way back from a 5-3 deficit. The senior broke to tie the match at 5-all, then held serve for a 6-5 lead. Ziverts tied the set at six games apiece to force a breaker, which Bakshi dominated to put the first set away 7-6 (3).

The Sooner trailed 4-2 in the second before winning four straight games to close out the set and the match.

Bakshi will face TCU’s Alex Rybakov, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, in tomorrow’s second round. The conference rivals have met just once in their careers when No.45 Bakshi pulled off a 6-3, 6-2 upset of No. 17 Rybakov in April 2018 at TCU.

Bakshi and Stefano Tsorotiotis will open the 2019 NCAA Tennis Doubles Championships tomorrow against Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa of Wichita State.

Times for tomorrow’s matches are yet to be announced. Live stats and video will be available for all matches of the tournament. Contests played after 3 p.m. CT will be broadcast live on the Tennis Channel.
