Green One of 10 Finalists for Freshman of Year

NORMAN — Oklahoma softball utility player Grace Green is one of 10 finalists for the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year, the NFCA announced Thursday.

Named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year on Wednesday, Green led the league in home runs (9), RBIs (27), total bases (53) and slugging percentage (1.000) during conference games this year. She also paced all conference freshmen in batting average (.415), hits (22), runs scored (17), on-base percentage (.476) and slugging (1.000) in league contests.

Overall, Green leads Big 12 freshmen in batting average (.403), hits (54), home runs (14), runs scored (42), RBIs (48), total bases (102), on-base percentage (.478), and slugging (.761) in all games this season.

Green is one of two freshmen from the Big 12 among the final 10 candidates for Freshman of the Year, joining Texas pitcher Shealyn O'Leary.

This is the sixth season that the NFCA will name a Freshman of the Year; Oklahoma’s Paige Parker (2015) and Jocelyn Alo (2018) have both received the accolade.

The top three finalists will be revealed on May 21, and the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 28.
