Round One of Regionals Wraps in Norman

NORMAN – Oklahoma opened the NCAA Norman Regional by carding a 5-over 293 on Monday at the par-72, 6,367-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The Sooners are tied for 11th place in the 18-team event with two days remaining.

The top six schools from the Norman Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. With 54 holes to play, Oklahoma is six strokes out of sixth place.

“Our games are in a good spot, we just missed some opportunities today,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We need to keep fighting and play our own game.”

Playing in her hometown of Norman, sophomore Kaitlin Milligan sits in sixth place after firing a 2-under 70. Milligan’s four birdies helped position herself two strokes behind leader Michaela Fletcher of Memphis.

Freshman Mikhaela Fortuna is tied for 34th with a 1-over 73 while sophomore Sydney Youngblood is in 45th after carding a 74 (+2).

Freshman Libby Winans and senior Julienne Soo both shot 76 (+4).

The Sooners tee off in the second round at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday off of hole No. 10 and will be paired with golfers from Virginia Tech and Texas A&M.
