CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The No. 32 Oklahoma women’s tennis team fell to No. 1 North Carolina 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA tournament at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Sooners conclude the season at 17-9 overall, good for OU’s best finish since 2014 and first NCAA tournament appearance since 2015.

“I am extremely proud of how much this team has grown both individually and together,” OU head coach Audra Cohen said. “They learned how to become a more resilient and more successful person in life and that translated to how well they did on the court.”

In doubles, Jasmine Asghar and Oleksandra Korashvili fell to No. 2 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham 6-4 at the top spot. Ivana Corley and Kianah Motosono dropped to Alle Sanfrod and Sara Daavettila 6-4 on court three.

When play came to a halt, Martina Capurro and Camila Romero were making a comeback against No. 12 Makenna Jones and Cameron Morra, trailing 6-5 on court two.

No. 26 Korashvili dropped to No. 5 Jones 6-3, 6-4 at the top spot. Capurro fell to No. 7 Graham 7-5, 6-2 on court two. On court three, Romero fell to No. 20 Daavettila 6-3, 6-2.

When singles play came to a halt, Asghar was in a third set with No. 46 Morra at the No. 4 line. The junior lost set one 6-4 but fought back to win set two 6-2. Asghar trailed 2-0 when play stopped.

On court five, Motosono was up 5-4 in set two with Aney after dropping the first 6-4. Corley dropped her first set to Sanford 7-6 (4) and was down 5-3 on court six.

“I give credit to a very talented North Carolina team this year,” said Cohen. “For us to come out here, bring energy and compete until the end was a really big accomplishment for the program.”
