NORMAN – For the first time since 2015, the Oklahoma women’s tennis team has earned a bid to the NCAA tournament, the organization announced Monday.

The Sooners (16-8) will travel to North Carolina for the Chapel Hill Regional hosted by the University of North Carolina, the No. 2 national seed.

OU will open the tournament with Winthrop Saturday, May 4 at 9 a.m. CT while North Carolina and South Carolina State square off on the other side of the bracket at noon. The winners of the two matches will face each other on Sunday at noon CT with the winner of that match advancing to an NCAA Super Regional.

NCAA Super Regionals will take place May 10-11 at campus sites to be determined. Winners of each Super Regional will advance to the team Championships, conducted May 17-19 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

“I think it’s taken a lot of resilience and dedication to the process,” said head coach Audra Cohen on her team earning a bid. “I’m really proud of this team and how far they’ve come and really come together as the season has gone on.”

2019 marks OU’s first NCAA tournament appearance under Cohen. Prior to her time at the helm for the Sooners, Cohen lead North Florida to four tournament berths in five seasons.
