OU Ties for Third at Big 12 Championship
NORMAN – The No. 7 Oklahoma men’s golf team tied for third place at the Big 12 Championship. The Sooners carded a 284 (+4) during Sunday’s final round to bring their three-round total to 842 (+2).
The Big 12 Championship was originally scheduled for 72 holes, but shortened to just three rounds on Friday due to inclement weather. The tournament was held at the par-70, 7,201-yard Old White Course at The Greenbriar in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.
The 10-team field featured five teams ranked in the top 25 of the latest GolfStat rankings. The finish marked OU’s seventh consecutive top-3 finish.
No. 1 Oklahoma State won the conference title with a three-round 827 (-13), followed by TCU in second place at 838 (-2). OU and No. 6 Texas shared third place at 842 (+2) , while No. 10 Texas Tech claimed fifth place with an overall 844 (+4).
"We just didn't have our best stuff this week," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We'll go back to the drawing board before we head off to (NCAA) Regionals next week."
Junior Garett Reband and freshman Patrick Welch finished in the top 10, tying for eighth place at 209 (-1) to earn all-tournament team honors. Reband was consistent throughout the day to pick up his fourth top-10 finish of the season and carded an even-par 70 during Sunday’s final round.
Welch claimed his second top-10 finish of his career, also shooting 70 (E) to close out his first appearance at the Big 12 Championship. The freshman finished with three birdies during Sunday’s final 18 holes.
Senior Blaine Hale posted an even-par 70 on Sunday to total a 212 (+2) for the tournament to take 16th place. The senior closed out his round with an eagle on the par-5 on hole No. 17.
Redshirt junior Quade Cummins finished in a tie for 23rd place at 215 (+5). Cummins logged a 74 (+4) during Sunday’s final round, picking up an eagle and a birdie on his scorecard.
Senior Brad Dalke closed out the tournament with a 74 (+4) to bring his three-round total to 217 (+7). Dalke played well on the back nine, carding four straight birdies as the senior claimed a share of 31st place in his final Big 12 Championship.
The Sooners await their postseason destination for the NCAA Regionals, set to take place May 13-15. The selection show for the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship will air Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT live on Golf Channel.
