OU Claims Victories in Regular Season Finale
NORMAN — The Oklahoma track and field teams concluded its outdoor regular season at the National Relay Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday with two victories and more personal bests.
The Sooners got off to a hot start courtesy of the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Jackson Webb, Xavier Brown, Joseph Sheffield and Quoi Ellis. The four combined to win the National Relays' 4x1 crown in a time of 40.31 seconds. It marked the four-man squad's second victory in as many weeks after claiming the win at last weekend's John Jacobs Invitational. OU's women's 4x1 relay team placed fourth on Saturday in a time of 46.27 seconds.
Sophomore Falyn Reaugh got the field events started for the Sooners, claiming fourth after going over the bar at 5-6.5 (1.69m).
Oklahoma's horizontal jumps group capped a solid weekend with five combined top-10 finishes across the men's and women's triple jumps. Sophomore Papay Glaywulu took second in the men's triple with a leap of 53-3.75 (16.25m), while fellow sophomore Garry Williams placed seventh with a jump of 49-3.5 (15.02m).
In the women's triple jump, sophomore Essence Thomas registered her second personal best of the weekend. She took third with a PR-mark of 44-2.5 (13.47m) while senior Nay Strickland also hit a PR with a leap of 41-5.25 to place eighth. Freshmen Allanah Lee (39-9.25, 12.12m) and Nicole Ezeoke (39-8, 12.09m) finished 10th and 11th, respectively.
Two senior pole vaulters competed in the women's pole vault invitational in Meagan Gray and Sydney King. Gray tied her personal best height, clearing 14-1.25 (4.30m) to take third, while King placed seventh, clearing the bar at 13-1.5 (4.00m).
OU's throws group continued their impressive weekend on Saturday in the shot put. Junior Meia Gordon won her fourth title of the outdoor season, winning the women's crown with a throw of 52-8 (16.05m). Freshman Faith Ette registered a PR throw of 51-9 (15.77m) to finish runner-up. Sophomore Lauren Jones (47-7.25, 14.51m) and redshirt freshman Lauryn Jones (41-3.25, 12.58m) placed fifth and 10th, respectively.
The men's shot put saw sophomore Cooper Campbell finish third with a throw of 60-5.75 (18.43m). Junior Brad Daboub placed sixth, tossing 57-9 (17.60m).
In the final running events of the day, OU's women's 4x100-meter shuttle hurdles team took third in a time of 57.93, while the Sooners' women's 4x400-meter relay finished eighth in 3:42.67.
Of the six relays scored, the OU women’s team took sixth overall at the meet with a team score of 12 points, while the men placed seventh (10).
The Sooners begin the postseason with the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Norman May 10-12 at the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex. It marks the first time OU has hosted the outdoor championships since 2011, where both the men's and women's teams placed third.
