NORMAN – The No. 21 Oklahoma men’s tennis team plays host to a pair of top-10 opponents this weekend as it closes out the regular season with No. 10 TCU Friday at 6 p.m. CT and No. 1 Texas Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Sunday’s Red River Rivalry match will be broadcast on Fox Sports Oklahoma Plus.

Oklahoma

OU enters the weekend at 14-7 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

The Sooners dropped their last two contests, both on the road. OU fell to Baylor 6-1 with Mason Beiler the only Sooner to come away with a singles win. Beiler defeated No. 105 Sven Lah 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 [10-8] in the contest for his first career win over a ranked opponent.

The Sooners were defeated by Texas Tech in a 4-3 decision. OU gave up the doubles point but tallied singles wins from Spencer Papa, Jake Van Emburgh and Max Stewart.

Three OU players were ranked in the latest ITA singles release. Papa is No. 31 with an 8-4 record at the top spot, with five of those wins coming against ranked opponents. Van Emburgh was tabbed No. 63 and has compiled a 10-5 record between courts two, three and four. No. 67 Bakshi is 7-5 on the year with four wins at the top spot.

OU is 12-1 at the Headington Family Tennis Center this season. Six of the Sooners’ home wins have come as shutouts (against Abilene Christian 7-0; Wichita State, 4-0; Creighton, 4-0; Omaha, 7-0; Drake, 4-0; and USF, 7-0). OU’s only home loss came at the hands of No. 17 Notre Dame in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship match.

Scouting TCU

No. 10 TCU comes to Norman at 17-5 overall and 1-2 against the Big 12. In their last competition, the horned Frogs knocked off No. 8 Texas A&M 4-3 in Fort Worth.

TCU has three representatives in the ITA singles rankings. No. 4 Alex Rybakov is the highest-ranked player in the Big 12 and has a 13-2 record on court one. No. 24 Alastair Gray is 13-4 overall, playing primarily on court two. Reese Stalder is No. 110 nationally with a 12-7 record between courts two, three and four.

In doubles, No. 13 Stalder and Bertus Kruger are 15-5 on the season with 10 of their wins coming at the two spot. Gray and Rybakov were tabbed No. 36 and have compiled an 11-4 record on courts one and two.

Scouting Texas

No. 1 Texas is 20-2 and 3-0 in Big 12 matches. The Longhorns have won their last three matches straight, with their most recent win over TCU, 6-1 in Fort Worth.

Four Texas players are ranked in the latest ITA singles release. No. 7 Yuya Ito is 20-1 on the year with all but one of his wins coming at the No. 2 line. No. 8 Christian Sigsgaard is 12-6 at the top spot. Harrison Scott is No. 50 with a 12-5 record between courts two, three and four. Leonardo Telles is No. 73 nationally with a 12-2 overall record.

In doubles, Sigsgaard and Scott are No. 5 and own an 8-4 mark on court one.

The Longhorns will play at No. 26 Oklahoma State on Friday before making the trip to Norman.

Match Info

The TCU match is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT. Live stats will be available for the contest. Free pizza and t-shirts will be available for fans while supplies last. 

Sunday's meeting with Texas is set for 12:30 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on Fox Sports Oklahoma Plus. Live stats will also be provided. 

Prior to the Texas match, the Sooners will honor the senior class of Bakshi, Calvo and Papa. Free pizza will be available, and fans will have a chance to win a tennis racquet.
