Ten Sooners Named to Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Team

NORMAN – Ten members of the University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Team, the conference announced Tuesday.

Junior Matt Wenske and seniors Levi Anderson, Peter Daggett, Eric Holley, Jake Maloley, Brian Schibler, Genki Suzuki and Cameron Wright collected first-team honors. Senior Grant Kell and junior Tanner Justus were named to the second team.

Schibler was one of nine Big 12 student-athletes nominated with a 4.0 GPA.

To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 At-Large team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulatively or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The Sooners claimed their eighth consecutive and 18th overall MPSF conference title last Saturday against No. 2 Stanford, No. 11 Cal and No. 13 Air Force.

OU turns its attention to the 2019 NCAA Championships in Champaign, Ill., April 19-20. The Sooners will compete in the evening session of the qualifying round on Friday, April 19 against No. 4 Illinois, No. 5 Penn State, No. 8 Iowa, No. 9 Ohio State and No. 12 Army. The team finals will be Saturday, April 20 at 6 p.m. CT.

Oklahoma is chasing its fifth consecutive national title and NCAA record 13th overall. With one more national championship, head coach Mark Williams will also hold the record for the most national titles as a head coach.
