Clifton Named Big 12 Player of the Week
NORMAN — Oklahoma senior infielder Caleigh Clifton has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
This marks Clifton’s second career weekly honor from the league and the ninth earned by a Sooner this season.
Clifton led the Big 12 in batting average (.714), on-base percentage (.700) and slugging percentage (1.714) last week. She scored six runs and drove in five, both ranking second in the conference.
The Wayne, Okla., native had a hit in each game, including multiple hits in two contests, to match a career-long hitting streak of eight games.
Clifton tripled twice in the weekend series against Baylor and homered once, finishing the week with a league-best 4.00 total bases per game.
Behind Clifton’s performance, OU led the Big 12 in batting average (.420), on-base percentage (.482), slugging percentage (.826) and runs scored (31) last week.
The Sooners are back in action this weekend as they travel to Lawrence, Kan., for a three-game series at Kansas.
