NORMAN -It only took one weekend of competition for Oklahoma to become No. 1 again.

The OU women’s gymnastics team posted the best opening weekend score in NCAA history to earn the nation’s No. 1 ranking this week. No team could come close to the Sooners’ mark of 198.050, giving the squad its first week at No. 1 in 2019. The Sooners also posted the nation’s top scores on vault (49.625), bars (49.475) and beam (49.575). OU holds the second-best mark on floor with a 49.375.

Defending national champion UCLA took the No. 2 spot nationally with a 197.250, followed by Utah with a 197.175 to round out the top three. LSU comes in at No. 4 (196.775), while the Sooners’ Friday night opponent, Georgia, is slotted fifth (196.600).

Nine Sooners earned 24 individual national rankings this weekend, with an OU gymnast holding at least a share of the No. 1 spot on every event. All six who competed on vault and beam are ranked nationally, while five are ranked on bars and four are ranked on floor.

Junior Maggie Nichols holds the No. 1 spot on vault (10.0), beam (9.975) and the all-around (39.750). Senior Brenna Dowell is also ranked in the top 10 in the all-around with a No. 7 ranking (39.550).

Joining Nichols in the vault rankings are junior Jade Degouveia, who tied for No. 4 with a career-high 9.95 and Dowell and senior Nicole Lehrmann, who are tied for No. 7 with a 9.9. Junior Bre Showers is in a tie at No. 13 (9.875) and freshman Olivia Trautman is tied at No. 20 (9.850).

Lehrmann holds the No. 1 spot on bars with a 9.950. Nichols and Dowell are tied for No. 7 nationally (9.9) and sophomore Anastasia Webb is tied for No. 14 (9.875). Senior Alex Marks rounds out the Sooners ranked on bars, coming in with a tie for No. 23 with a career-high 9.85.

Along with Nichols, Webb (No. 4 – 9.925) Trautman (No. 7 – 9.9), Lehrmann (No. 7 – 9.9), Dowell (No. 15 – 9.875) and sophomore Carly Woodard (No. 15 – 9.875) are all ranked on beam.

Trautman excelled in her first collegiate floor performance, earning the top spot in the rankings with a 9.950. Nichols and Dowell are tied for No. 18 (9.875) and Webb is slotted at No. 25 (9.850).
