TUTTLE, Okla.  The Oklahoma wrestling team narrowly fell to No. 20 Pittsburgh 20-17 Sunday at Tuttle High School.

Wrestling at 174 pounds, redshirt freshman Anthony Mantanona led the charge for the Sooners, picking up his second pin of the weekend when he defeated Pitt’s Gregg Harvey by fall in just 0:55. The victory was good for his third pin of the season.  

Christian Moody got his first tech fall win of the season with a 19-2 victory over Brandon Fenton in the 125-pound bout. Moody got off to a hot start with two takedowns and a two-point nearfall for a 6-1 lead after one period. The redshirt junior put together an impressive second period, scoring a takedown and two four-point nearfalls and earning a point for riding time to close out his bout.

With his win Sunday, Moody remains undefeated (3-0) in dual matches this season.

No. 8  Dom Demas (141) notched his fourth straight win in a 4-2 decision against Pitt’s LJ Bentley. Demas led 3-1 after two periods and was awarded a point for riding time.

The victory was Demas’ second over Bentley this season after the two met at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in December.

At 149, OU’s Davion Jeffries picked up a victory over Robert Lee 9-5.  The senior opened the first period with a takedown and a four-point nearfall for a 6-0 lead and pushed his lead to 8-0 in the second. Although Lee rallied in the final frame, the Sooner held on for the win.

OU’s Anthony Madrigal (133) was defeated by No. 6 Micky Phillippi in a 10-4 decision. At 157, Justin Thomas suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to No. 10 Taleb Rahmani of Pitt. Sooner Jeremy Thomas was defeated by Jake Wentezel 13-2 in the 165 bout. At 174, Kayne MacCallum dropped to the Panthers’ No. 12 Nino Bonaccorsi, 7-5. Jake Woodley (197) was defeated by Kellan Stout in a 4-3 decision. Heavyweight Jake Boyd was defeated by Pitt’s No. 12 Demetrius Thomas 13-2 in the final match of the day.
