Demas Takes Fourth at Cliff Keen
Las Vegas, N.V. – Oklahoma’s Dom Demas finished fourth at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Saturday, marking his third top-five finish in the Sooners’ last three competitions.
In the 141-pounds consolation bracket, Demas opened the day with an 11-5 win by decision against LJ Bentley of Pitt in the first consolation round of eight. That set up a rematch with Samuel Krivus (Virginia), whom Demas beat in a 5-3 decision in the round of 32. Demas won the second meeting 10-3 to move on to the consolation semifinal.
Demas advanced to the third place bout by virtue of medical forfeit. There, he suffered a loss in a 5-2 decision to Michigan’s Storr to take fourth in the tournament.
Demas racked up six victories at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, bringing his record to 14-3 on the season to lead the team in wins.
Two more Sooners were in action Saturday. At 165, Jeremy Thomas suffered a sudden-victory overtime loss to Utah Valley’s Demetrius Romero, 8-6, in his bracket’s second consolation round of eight.
Heavyweight Jake Boyd was pinned by Missouri’s Zach Elam in 6:10 in the second consolation round of eight.
As a team, the Sooners finished the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational with 39 team points and tallied 20 victories on the tournament, with five of those coming as pins.
The Sooners’ home opener is set for Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. when OU hosts South Dakota State. Tickets for the event can be purchased online or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (405) 325-2424.
