NORMAN The Oklahoma soccer team is set for postseason play as the Big 12 Tournament kicks off Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo. GAMEDAY STORYLINES

LAST TIME OUT
In the final game of the regular season, the Sooners traveled to Waco to take on No. 10 Baylor. A goal by the Bears in the 10th minute would be the difference maker as the Sooners fell, 1-0, to the outright Big 12 regular season champions. The Sooners finished Big 12 play with a 3-5-1 record, earning the No. 7 seed in the tournament as a result.

TOURNEY TIME
For the first time, the Big 12 Tournament will be played over the span of two weekends. Quarterfinal matches will be held on Oct. 28, with semifinals being played Nov. 2 and the finals slated for Nov. 4. All games will be played at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.

The Sooners open play against No. 2 West Virginia. The Mountaineers defeated the Sooners in the regular season, 4-1, in Norman.

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN
The 2018 freshman class has made an incredible impact since arriving on campus. Hailey Davidson leads the way with four goals, while Megan Reilly and Lauren Tovy have each added one goal apiece. Reilly and classmate Olivia Smith have each recorded a pair of assists and Davidson has added one of her own. Of the 11 members of the 2018 signing class, seven have seen action this season.

RECORD PACE
Senior Marissa McMahand has been an important piece to this year’s squad, assisting on seven goals this season. McMahand tied the school record with three assists in one game against Illinois State on Aug. 24. She is now just one assist away from tying the single-season record of eight, set in 2005 by Lauren MacIver and 2002 by Krissy Dawson. McMahand’s seven this season are currently tied for third in program history.

OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
The Sooners have had quite the offensive turnaround from the 2017 season, almost doubling their season total from a year ago. Through 18 games OU has posted 28 goals for a 1.65 goals per game mark. In 2017, the Sooners tallied just 13 goals all season. The offensive surge has been primarily due to six goals from Kaylee Dao and five from Ivanna Rivas. OU has posted more than three goals in a game twice this season, earning a 7-1 victory over Illinois State and a 4-1 victory over San Francisco.

ON THE BOARD
With the regular season wrapped up, the Sooners have only been shut out three times all season. It’s a huge turnaround from the 2017 season when OU was shut out in 11 games. It’s the sixth time in program history that OU has been shut out less than three times by the 17-game mark. Only the 2003 team had a better regular season, being shut out just twice. The three shutouts in regular season play are the second fewest in program history, tied with the 2010 squad.

SCOUTING REPORT

WEST VIRGINIA
The Mountaineers missed out on the opportunity to share the Big 12 title with a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Kansas in the final game of the regular season. WVU was tied with Baylor for the league crown for most of the season but needed a win to secure at least a share of the title. In the 98th minute, the Jayhawks found the back of the net to knock the Mountaineers into second place.

WVU finished the regular season with an 11-3-3 record and a 7-2-0 mark in conference play. Bianca St. Georges leads the team with six goals on the season, while Lauren Segalla and Lizzie Mayfield are tied for the lead in assists with four each. In goal, Rylee Foster has posted seven solo shutouts, allowing just 11 goals while making 25 saves.

UP NEXT

The semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament are slated for Friday, Nov. 2, in Kansas City, Mo. If the Sooners defeat WVU, they would face the winner of the Texas/Kansas matchup at 7 p.m. CT.
