HOCKLEY, Texas — The Oklahoma men’s golf team fell to Baylor, 4-1-1, in its lone match at the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The three-day event is taking place at the par-71, 7,007-yard Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.

The Big 12 is the first conference to create its own match play tournament, taking advantage of the format that is used to determine the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. The event is being played on three days consisting of pool play for five sessions (Friday through Sunday morning) followed by a championship round set for Sunday afternoon.

The No. 2 seeded Sooners picked up a win from junior Riley Casey over Baylor’s Ryan Grider, 3&2. Casey grabbed an early lead by winning four of the first six holes. Grider made a run late in the match to trim Casey’s lead, but the junior clinched his match on the 16th hole with a birdie to put OU on the board.

Freshman Logan McAllister halved his match against Baylor’s Mark Reppe. McAllister took the lead late in the match, but Reppe won the final hole to finish all-square.

Through three matches, OU boasts a 1-1-1 record at the event and has four points in Pool B. OU received a bye for the afternoon session.

OU will wrap up pool play on Sunday against No. 3 seed Texas at 8 a.m. CT. The Sooners will then play their final match after the conclusion of pool play.
