NORMAN – University of Oklahoma Head Rowing Coach Leeanne Crain and Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced the 2018-19 rowing schedule on Friday.

The season, which features two fall and five spring regular-season regattas, is highlighted by the Big 12 Conference Championship held in Knoxville, Tenn.

“We're looking forward to another great year ahead and we've got a solid race schedule in place this spring,” said Oklahoma head coach Leeanne Crain.

The Sooners open the fall season at the Head of the Oklahoma this weekend in Oklahoma City. The regatta is the squad's only home event of the fall and is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. Competition will continue Saturday evening for the OG&E NightSprints at 8 p.m. Pairs competition will be held on Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m.

OU will travel to Lawrence, Kan., on Oct. 21 for a regatta at the University of Kansas to close out the fall slate.

Oklahoma rowing returns to competition in the spring on March 9 to host Kansas State for a regular-season scrimmage in Oklahoma City. The spring schedule also includes trips to the Cooper River Park in New Jersey for the Cooper Sprints (March 24), the Crew Classic in San Diego, Calif. (April 6-7) and the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C. (April 19-20). The regular season concludes in Austin, Texas, at the competitive Longhorn Invitational on April 27.

The Sooners' postseason begins in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Big 12 Championship on May 18-19. The winner of the conference title earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships, held at the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind., May 31-June 2.

Crain added, “We made a very conscious decision to cut back the fall schedule, so we could place a greater emphasis on training and athlete development. We believe this change will play out very positively in the spring when our race results matter most.”
