NORMAN – University of Oklahoma men’s tennis coach Nick Crowell and Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced the Sooners’ 2018 fall schedule on Thursday.

“We are really excited to kick off our season next week,” said Crowell. “One of our major goals in the fall is to get a lot of high-level match play and experience heading into the spring. We are playing a tough national schedule combined with pro Futures events.

“I’m excited to see all of our guys compete and push their games to the next level this fall.”

OU opens the season Sept. 14-16 at the Alabama 4-in-the-Fall in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Sooners will split up for two tournaments the weekend of Sept. 21-23, with OU represented at the Virginia +1 tournament in Charlottesville, Va., as well as at the Ivy Plus Invite in Princeton, N.J.

Oklahoma heads to the ITA All-American Championships held at the University of Tulsa. Pre-qualifying begins on Sept. 29, with the qualifying draw set for Oct. 1-2, and the main draw running from Oct. 4-8.

OU will send players to the Harlingen Futures in Harlingen, Texas, beginning Oct. 12 before returning to Tulsa on Oct. 18-22 for the ITA Central Regional Championships.

The Sooners will play a pair of Futures tournaments in Birmingham, Ala., (Oct. 26-Nov. 11) and Niceville, Fla., (Nov. 2-11) before wrapping up at the fall slate at the Oracle/ITA Fall Championships, held in Surprise, Ariz., Nov. 7-11.

Oklahoma men’s tennis returns six players in seniors Ferran Calvo and Spencer Papa along with Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Year Alex Bakshi. OU also returns junior Jochen Bertsch and the sophomore duo of Stefano Tsorotiotis and Jake Van Emburgh. Van Emburgh enters the season fresh off the singles title at the Oracle/ITA National Summer Championships.

The Sooners are joined by freshmen Mason Beiler (New Port Richey, Fla.), Matt Rodriguez (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Taine Bernhard (Johannesburg, South Africa), as well as new assistant coach and OU alum Nick Papac.

The spring schedule will be released at a later date.
