NORMAN – Oklahoma wrestling’s Anthony Mantanona is set to compete at the Junior Pan-American Championships, beginning Friday in Fortaleza, Brazil.

The rising redshirt freshman will compete in the freestyle event at 79 kg and in the Greco-Roman event’s 77 kg weight class as one of just three athletes on the USA squad to compete in both divisions.

Mantanona qualified for the Greco-Roman event after winning his weight class at the 2018 UWW Greco-Roman World Team Trial in early June. Mantanona was the 77 kg champion at the 2018 Marine Cup US Open Wrestling Championships held in April, grabbing an 8-0 win by major decision in the championship bout to earn a spot on the freestyle team.

The tournament begins with Greco-Roman action on Friday, followed by women’s freestyle on Saturday and men’s freestyle closing out the tournament on Sunday.

Livestream will be available on Trackwrestling.com (subscription required) or Unitedworldwrestling.org
