OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma baseball’s run at the Big 12 Championship came to end on Saturday as the Sooners fell to Baylor, 10-3, in front of 5,038 fans at Chicksaw Bricktown Ballpark. OU dropped to 36-23 overall, while The Bears advanced to the Big 12 Championship final with a 35-19 record.

In a back and forth game through five innings, Baylor used a two-out rally and took advantage of three walks to take the lead for good in the sixth. After recording two quick outs to start the frame, a two-out double by Baylor’s Shea Langliers off of OU starter Devon Perez kept the inning alive.

From there, the Bears grabbed the lead with a bases-loaded walk issued by OU reliever Ryan Madden and then got a two-RBI single from center fielder Levi Gilcrease to add a pair of insurance runs with two outs.

The Bears added two runs in the eighth and ninth innings to put the game out of reach.

Perez took the loss for the Sooners, allowing four earned runs and five hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Making his first start since April 28, Perez (5-5) recorded two walks and struck out six.

Baylor right-hander Alex Phillips picked up the win relief, throwing 5.1 shutout innings. Phillips (7-1) allowed just one hit and walked one, while striking out seven. Tyler Thomas made the start for the Bears, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up three runs on five hits to go along with six strikeouts.

Brylie Ware led the Sooners at the plate with a 2-for-5 performance and a run scored. Cade Harris and Justin Mitchell each finished 1-for-4 with RBI triples. Brandona Zaragoza walked twice and was 1-for-3.

Baylor scored first to grab a 1-0 lead in the second inning. After Davion Downey drew a walk and advanced to second on a balk by Perez, the Bears took the lead as a ground ball in between first and second allowed T.J. Raguse to reach base and allowed Downey to score on a throwing error by the Sooners.

OU answered in the bottom of the third inning as Mitchell’s RBI triple to the right center gap plated Ware to tie the game.

Downey’s two-run home run in the top of the fourth but the Bears back in front, but the Sooners answered in the bottom half. After a pair of walks to Thomas Hughes and Domenic DeRenzo extended the frame, Harris belted a two-RBI triple off the wall in right field to even the game at 3-3.

The Sooners now await their postseason destination. The NCAA Baseball Selection Show takes place on Monday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU.
