Miyazaki Garners Pair of Academic Awards

WAKE FOREST, N.C.– Senior Lily Miyazaki has received the NCAA Elite 90 Award and been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's/Women's At-Large Team, selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organizations announced Tuesday. 

Miyazaki graduated in December with a 4.0 GPA in mathematics and has begun graduate studies in managament information systems, where she has maintained her perfect GPA.

The Tokyo, Japan, native becomes OU's third recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award, joining Kim Moldenhaur (rowing, 2012-13) and C.J. Cole (men's basketball, 2015-16) on that list.  

The ELITE 90 Award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 90 championships.

Miyazaki's Academic All-District® At-Large recognition is the second in her career.The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.   The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes for men's at-large and women's at-large, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.

Miyazaki is one of 10 honorees in District 7, which includes Division I universities in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. A highly competitive district, eight members of the team, including Miyazaki, had a GPA of 4.0 or higher.

Miyazaki has received numerous awards for her accomplishments in the classroom, including three Academic All-Big 12 First Team selections, 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team honors, ITA All-Academic team recognition, and was named a co-recipient of the 2017 Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

The senior will represent OU at the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships beginning Wednesday, when she will face Duke’s Meible Chi in the first round of single at 12:30 p.m. CT.
