NORMAN – The Oklahoma track and field teams will have 34 qualifiers (11 men, 23 women) competing at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, Calif., on the campus of California State University, Sacramento, May 24-26.
To qualify, competitors had to have been ranked in the top 48 in their respective event or be among the top 24 relay teams. Athletes must have the top 12 times or marks in their individual event to advance to Eugene, Ore., and the NCAA Outdoor Championships, held June 6-9 at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. For relay teams, the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary round sites qualify.
Of the 34 Sooners selected, 14 are repeat qualifiers and 12 are freshmen who are qualifying for their first outdoor preliminary round. Along with the individual qualifiers, both the OU men’s and women’s 4x100-meter relay teams will be competing at regionals.
Nine Sooner entries are in the top-10 of their event on the regional performance list. Twenty-four qualifying times or marks were recorded at this past weekend’s Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Waco, Texas.
