NORMAN – Austin Reaves has signed his financial aid agreement with the University of Oklahoma and will join the Sooners' men's basketball program after two seasons at Wichita State. The NCAA requires Division I transfers sit out one year before competing at their new institution.
A 6-5 guard from Newark, Ark., Reaves averaged 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists during the 2017-18 season with the Shockers in 33 games (11 starts).
“We’re very pleased to have Austin join our program,” said OU head coach Lon Kruger. “He’s a terrific young player who shoots the ball well while also being able to create for others. He’s a versatile talent who fits exactly what we need.”
Reaves is a proven shooter and threat from behind the arc, going 54-of-127 (.425) from 3-point range last season and 28-of-55 (.509) in his freshman year. He led the American Athletic Conference in 3-point percentage during conference play in 2017-18 by shooting at a .451 clip (37-for-82).
In 66 career games at Wichita State, Reaves averaged 6.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He has scored 401 career points and sunk 82 3-pointers.
"I'm happy to be a part of a program with great coaches and players," said Reaves. "I chose Oklahoma because of the relationships, the opportunities and that it’s a great place to go to school."
Reaves is the fifth new addition to the 2018-19 Oklahoma squad, joining incoming freshman guard Jamal Bieniemy, junior college transfer forward Kur Kuath and graduate transfer guards Aaron Calixte and Miles Reynolds.
