NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma track and field team begins postseason competition this weekend in Waco, Texas, at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship.

Held at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium on the campus of Baylor University, the three-day meet will feature the best student-athletes in the Big 12 competing for conference supremacy. Competition is set to begin Thursday morning at 11 a.m. CT with the combined events.

OU head coach Jim VanHootegem looks forward to the team's opportunity to compete for conference titles, “This is the best time of year. Everyone is done with finals, we get warm weather, and we get to compete against our friends and rivals in the Big 12."

VanHootegem added, "This is the best time to set personal bests and figure out everything you've been working on all year. This is as fun as it gets."

The Sooners will have over 50 student-athletes competing in 30-plus events at this year's outdoor conference championship.

OU returns to action after running in the 124th annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The Sooners claimed five event titles at the meet, highlighted by OU’s first “Championship of America” relay title by the women’s 4x200-meter relay team. Other highlights included throws seniors Jess Woodard and Ashley Bryant collecting titles in the women's shot put and hammer throw, respectively. Additionally, freshman Vernon Turner claimed another men’s high jump title.
