NORMAN – The No. 18 Oklahoma rowing team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with a successful day at the Longhorn Invitational, highlighted by the 1V8's "B" final victory. The regatta was held on Decker Lake in Austin, Texas.
Overall, the Sooners finished fifth out of eight teams with 105 points. Placement was determined by the NCAA scoring system, Big 12 rival Texas placed first.
OU faced off against some of the top teams in the country including No.3 Texas, No. 8 Iowa and No. 9 Virginia.
The 2V4 qualified for its "A" final by finshing second in the first race of the day with a time of 7:31.053, defeating UCF and Miami, and falling to Texas.
OU's 1V8 placed third in a closely contested race, crossing the finish line in 6:32.430. Texas outpaced the competition by nearly 10 seconds, Oregon State edged the Sooners by about three seconds with Miami in fourth, six seconds behind the Sooners.
The 2V8 picked up another third-place finish for the Sooners posting a 6:53.084. Texas placed first for the third time in session one, followed by Oregon State, OU and Miami.
The 1V4 finished with a time of 7:22.711 and placed second to advance to its "A" final,. The boat defeated Oregon State and Miami by over ten seconds and fell to first-place Texas.
In the final race of session one, the 3V8 picked up the Sooners third second-place finish of the day with a time of 6:54.977. Texas claimed first once again with Alabama and Miami placing third and fourth, respectively.
OU's 2V4 kicked off the second session with a third-place finish, crossing the finish line in 7:56.290. The boat finished ahead of Iowa and fell to Virginia and Texas.
The 3V8 earned the Sooners' third-straight third-place finish with a time of 7:32.866. Texas' 3V8 and N8 took first and second respectively with Iowa finishing fourth.
For the second time at the regatta, the 1V4 finished second. The boat posted a time of 8:11.562, defeating UCF and Miami and losing to Alabama.
The 2V8 claimed second in its final race of the day, finishing in 7:09.408. UCF placed first with Alabama and Miami in third and fourth, respectively.
The 1V8 capped off the regatta with the Sooners lone victory of the day, crossing the finish line in 7:04.872. The boat defeated UCF, Miami and Alabama.
With the regular season behind it, OU turns its attention to the Big 12 Championship on May 12 and 13 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
