AUSTIN, Texas The Oklahoma women’s tennis team finished the 2018 Big 12 Championships in the quarterfinals as it fell to No. 7 Oklahoma State, 4-1, Friday.

With the loss, OU drops to 15-12 on the year, while OSU improves to 19-3.

“We competed as well as we could have today,” said head coach Audra Cohen. “I think it’s a big leap for this team to have come out into this match believing that they could beat this team and that is a testament to how much they’ve grown this season.”

“The four seniors have grown so much over their time at OU. They’ve really stepped up and been great leaders in terms of bringing discipline and energy to every match. I think they’ve done an amazing job of buying in to things this year and really putting their heart in to every match.”

The Sooners gave up the doubles point to open the match. At No. 2 doubles, Lily Miyazaki and Malene Stripp were defeated by OSU’s Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova, 6-1.

OU's Christie Brigante and Jasmine Asghar took No. 13 Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco to the wire on court one, but fell ultimately, 7-5.

When play was abandoned, Simran Sethi and Camila Romero were locked in at 5-5 with OSU’s Megan McCray and Sami Court at the No. 3 spot. Sethi and Romero trailed 3-1 before firing back to tie the court.

Sethi grabbed OU’s first singles win of the day, giving up just two games en route to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Sami Court on court six to tie the match at 1-1.

Asghar was defeated by OSU’s No. 34 McCray, 6-1, 6-2, on court two. At the top spot, the Sooners’ No. 39 Miyazaki was defeated by No. 20 Babic, 6-0, 6-4.

When play was halted, OU’s Brigante was tied at 4-4 in the second set with No. 112 Stresnakova on court three. Brigante dropped the first set, 6-3.

On court six, Stripp trailed the Cowgirls’ Blanco, 5-2, in set two after giving up the first, 6-4.

The Sooners await their NCAA Tournament fate with the selections announced next week.
