NORMAN – The OU women’s tennis team welcomes No. 13 Texas Tech and TCU to the Headington Family Tennis Center this weekend to close out the regular season home slate.
The Sooners come into the weekend at 12-9 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play. In its last competiton, OU recorded a pair of shutouts in a doubleheader with Oral Roberts, winning both matches, 4-0.
Senior Lily Miyazaki is the Sooners’ representative in the ITA singles rankings, coming in at No. 41 in the latest release. Miyazaki owns a record of 11-5 from the top spot, picking up all of her wins in straight sets.
Jasmine Asghar and Christie Brigante have both compiled 8-6 records on courts two and three, respectively. Malene Stripp is 8-3 on the year, playing primarily at the six spot.
As a pair, Asghar and Brigante are also 8-6 from the No. 1 line, clinching the doubles point for OU in the last two matches.
Scouting Texas Tech
The Red Raiders come into Friday’s contest at 14-5, 3-2 Big 12 and ranked No. 13 in the latest ITA release. In its last match, Texas Tech was defeated by Texas, 4-2, at home.
In singles, TTU is led by Gabriela Talaba, who checks in at No. 17 in the ITA rankings with a 10-3 record from the No. 1 line.
Felicity Maltby is ranked 46 nationally, compiling an 8-5 record between courts two and three.
No. 96 Sabrina Federici is 9-3 overall, playing primarily at the No. 3 spot. Sarah Dvorak is 9-4 on the year, good for a ranking of 112.
In doubles, Dvorak and Federici are tabbed No. 15 with a record of 5-5. Talaba and Maltby are No. 89, amassing a record of 15-2 at the two spot.
The last time the Sooners met Texas Tech was during the 2017 regular season. The Red Raiders came out on top of that contest, 4-2, in Lubbock.
Texas Tech leads the all-time series, 17-11.
TCU comes enters Sunday’s matchup with a record of 9-11, 0-5 Big 12. In their last contest, the Horned Frogs suffered a narrow loss to Baylor, 4-3, at home. TCU has lost its last six consecutive matches, all of which has been against ranked opponents.
Donika Bashota leads the Horned Frogs in singles wins with a record of 11-5. Aleksandra Zenovka is TCU’s representative in the ITA singles rankings, checking in at No. 92 with a record of 7-8 on courts one, two and three.
In doubles, Stevie Kennedy and Marie Norris lead TCU in wins with a 6-2 record, playing primarily at the two spot.
The last meeting between the teams was during the 2017 regular season in Fort Worth, when the Horned Frogs prevailed, 4-1.
TCU leads the all-time series, 19-14.
Free food will be provided for fans at both matches. The first 50 fans at the Texas Tech match will have the opportunity to win an Apple 4K TV.
The TCU match will be broadcast on Fox Sports Oklahoma. The Sooners will honor seniors Miyazaki, Brigante, Malene Stripp, Simran Sethi and Brooke Withrow prior to the match.
