Sooners Claim 11th at Clemson Invitational
NORMAN – Oklahoma women's golf concluded its time at the Clemson Invitational on Sunday, finishing the event in 11th place. The Sooners shot a 297 (+9) in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 884 (+20) at the 6,260-yard, par-72 Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
“It was a tough tournament for us this week,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We fell back quickly and couldn’t get any momentum going. Val played well and that should be a huge boost for her. We have a couple weeks to prepare at home for a strong push in the postseason.”
OU's finish was its first outside of the top two since October. In their past five tournaments, the Sooners have racked up two event titles and two second-place finishes.
Furman won the event with a three-round score of 834 (-30).
Senior Valerie Tanguay, competing in the event as an in individual, shot her lowest tournament score as a Sooner by carding a 209 (-7). Tanguay tied for fourth place - her second top-five finish of the season. The senior finished three strokes behind individual medalist Alice Hewson of Clemson.
Senior Rylee Pedigo led the five Sooners in the lineup with a 219 (+3) to tie for 32nd place. Fellow senior Hannah Wood produced a 221 (+5) to tie for 44th.
Freshman Kaitlin Milligan and senior Ana Ruiz tied for 53rd with scores of 224 (+8) and senior Julienne Soo finished with a 229 (+13).
The Sooners return to Norman and prepare for postseason play. The Big 12 Championship tees off on April 20 at the Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas.
