Sooners Roll to Run-Rule Win Over Nebraska
FULLERTON, Calif. – No. 5/5 Oklahoma softball earned its 12th shutout win of the season on Saturday as it run-ruled Nebraska 8-0 in six innings at the Easton Tournament.
The Sooners moved to 22-2 on the season with their ninth run-rule victory of the year and second straight. OU also extended its winning streak to 13 games.
Paige Parker and Parker Conrad combined on the shutout for OU. Parker moved to 12-1 on the season as she threw the first 4.0 innings, surrendering two hits and no runs while striking out seven. Conrad closed the final 2.0 innings, allowing no hits or runs and registering two strikeouts.
Sydney Romero led the OU offense on Saturday with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, scoring two runs and recording two RBIs while also drawing a walk. Romero and freshman Jocelyn Alo both homered in the contest.
The Sooners got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Alo drew a walk with two outs, extending her on-base streak to 14 games, which leads the team this season. Nicole Pendley then doubled off the top of the left center wall to drive in Alo from first.
OU extended its lead with a five-run second inning. With Nicole Mendes and Hannah Sparks in scoring position, Kelsey Arnold reached on an error that allowed both Sooners to reach home.
Romero then drilled a two-run home run to left field, her fifth home run of the season and second of the weekend. Two batters later, Alo drilled a solo shot to center field. The freshman leads the team with 10 homers this season.
The win came in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Raegan Rogers singled to left field to drive in Romero and Eliyah Flores.
The Sooners conclude the Easton Tournament on Sunday as they face No. 17/18 Ohio State and Cal State Fullerton. OU then concludes its road trip as it travels to Northridge, Calif., on Monday to take on Cal State Northridge at 2 p.m. CT.
