NORMAN – The Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team continued to dominate weekly awards as senior Hunter Justus was named MPSF Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Sooners have won conference-gymnast-of-the-week honors six times this season, the most out of any team in the MPSF.
Justus, who earned weekly honors for the first time in his career, led OU to a 410.100-397.250 victory in his last career home meet this past weekend.
The Cypress, Texas, native competed in five events and won an event title on vault (14.800) and finished in the top five in three other events, claiming second on parallel bars (13.850) and a pair of fourth place finishes on floor (14.150) and pommel horse (13.450).
In addition to winning MPSF Gymnast of the Week, Justus was named a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award last week, given to the top senior gymnast in the NCAA. As a part of three-straight national championship teams, the Cypress, Texas, native has not missed a single NCAA meet and the Sooners have not lost with Justus in the lineup, posting more than 80-straight victories.
Considered the highest honor in college gymnastics, the Nissen-Emery Award will be presented at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championship Banquet in Chicago. For more information on Justus’ Nissen-Emery nod, click here.
OU hits the road for the first time in over a month as it travels to Champaign, Ill., to take on Illinois on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
