NORMAN — Out of the 14 University of Oklahoma student-athletes awarded the Big 12’s highest academic honor, the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, OU rowers led the way with four honorees.
Andrea Batchev, Louise Kuehster, Madeleine Lange and Taylor Spencer all picked up the award.
Batchev is a junior studying biochemistry. The three seat for the Sooner’s 1V8 last season, her boat finished second at the Big 12 Championship. The Rockwood, Mich.-native also picked up a pair of first place finishes at the Big 12 Double Dual.
Kuester, a senior majoring in chemical engineering, competed with the 2V4. Her boat took home first at last year’s Longhorn Invitational.
A junior majoring biosciences and health exercise science, Lange sat in the two seat of the 1V8 last season which finished second at the Big 12 Championship and won twice at the Big 12 Double Dual. In addition to being named a Lage Award recipient, Lange was named a distinguished scholar her freshman year at OU.
Taylor Spencer sat in the four seat in the 1V8 last season. A 2017 December graduate, she majored in professional writing. The Harrisonville, Mo. was awarded the Jay Myers Award, given to the freshman student-athlete who best combines excellence in scholarship and athletics.
