TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma wrestling completed its run at the Big 12 Championship on Sunday at the BOK Center in Tulsa finishing sixth with 52 team points. Three Sooners earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships due to their Big 12 finishes: Dawaylon Barnes (165 pounds), Yoanse Mejias (174 pounds) and Christian Moody (125 pounds).

Additionally, three Sooner wrestlers are eligible for wildcard spots for the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Cleveland, Ohio, from March 17-19. Those are Andrew Dixon (197 pounds), Davion Jeffries (149 pounds) and Mike Longo (141 pounds).

Barnes finished his Sunday with a victory, defeating Utah Valley's Demetrius Romero by a 15-2 major decision in the fifth place match at 165 pounds. The win capped the senior's 3-2 outing at this year's tournament. Also competing in fifth place matches were Dixon, Jeffries, Longo and Moody. Mejias fell to Oklahoma State's Jacobe Smith by decision, 6-4, in their third-place match.

Longo, who went 3-2 on the weekend with all victories coming over higher seeds, led the Sooners with two wins by fall. Jeffries, seeded sixth, also earned an upset win on Saturday over No. 3 seed Khristian Olivas of Fresno State.

The 2017-18 season comes to a close for the Sooner wrestlers who are not eligible as wildcards or did not earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.
