Oklahoma has notched two Big 12 titles, in 1999 and 2002, with both titles coming over then-second-place Oklahoma State.

Five Sooners have been named the Big 12's Most Outstanding Wrestler: Cody Brewer (2016; 133 pounds), Jarrod Peterson (2010; 125 pounds), Sam Hazewinkel (2007; 125 pounds), Teyon Ware (2003; 141 pounds) and Shane Valdez (1999; 125 pounds).

Current Oklahoma assistant coach Michael Lightner had a Big 12 Championship career to remember. As a Sooner, Lightner was a four-time Big 12 champion at 141 pounds (1998-2001). His Big 12 title run in 2001 helped him achieve a perfect 37-0 record as a senior.

Last season, OU claimed second place at the Big 12 Championship, totaling 92.5 points. Seven Sooners earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships through their performance at the Big 12's, including current Sooners Mike Longo (141 pounds), Christian Moody (125 pounds) and Davion Jeffries (149 pounds). Jeffries would complete his tournament with a runner-up finish at 149 pounds.

Sooners who qualify for the 2018 NCAA Championships will travel to The Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, from March 17-19.
