NORMAN – Four Oklahoma wrestlers were named to the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Redshirt freshman Justin Thomas and seniors Andrew Dixon and Mike Longo were among the 63 wrestlers named to the first team, while redshirt sophomore Christian Moody was named to the second team.
Moody (Health and Exercise Science), who finished his regular season with a 14-5 record in duals, is currently No. 16 in the nation at 125 pounds in Intermat's latest top 20 rankings. Thomas (Criminology), has earned 22 overall wins in his first season competing, garnering a 9-9 record in duals.
Longo (Arts & Sciences - Planned Program) has earned 15 overall wins in his final collegiate season at 141 pounds, including a win by major decision, 8-0, over No. 11 Luke Karam of Lehigh to conclude his regular season career. Dixon (Political Science) is 17-17 overall in his senior season at 197 pounds.
First team members maintained a 3.20 GPA or higher, while a 3.00-3.19 GPA earned a spot for second team honorees. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers in their first year of academic residence are not eligible. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners return to the mat this Saturday and Sunday for the Big 12 Championships at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
