OU Tied for Third Heading into Final Round

NORMAN – The No. 6 Oklahoma men’s golf team is tied for third place after two rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par-71, 6,716-yard Ocean Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa in Rio Grande, P.R.

The Sooners posted a 296 (+12) on Monday, bringing their team total to 570 (+2). The field at the Puerto Rico Classic features five top-25 teams.

Georgia Tech sits atop the leaderboard with a 562 (-6), while host Purdue is in sole possession of second place at 567 (-1). The Sooners are tied with Clemson and North Carolina State going into Tuesday’s final 18 holes.

Redshirt sophomore Quade Cummins led OU during the second round, holding a tie for sixth place through 36 holes. Cummins recorded a 69 (-2) with five birdies to bring his two-day total to 139 (-3). The Weatherford, Okla., native’s 69 marked his lowest round of the season.

Three strokes behind Cummins is senior Grant Hirschman, who is tied for 12th. Hirschman posted a 74 (+3) during Monday’s round and sits at 142 (E) through 36 holes.

Junior Brad Dalke is tied for 21st place with an overall 144 (+2), carding a 75 (+4) in the second round. Junior Blaine Hale shot a 78 (+7) on the day and shares 30th place at 146 (+4). Redshirt sophomore Thomas Johnson is two strokes behind Hale and sits in a tie for 44th overall after recording a 79 (+8) in the second round.

The final round will begin Tuesday at 6:30 a.m.  CT with a shotgun start. The Sooners will be paired with Purdue and Georgia Tech. 

At the Puerto Rico Classic individual tournament, OU’s three participants continued their strong play. After two rounds, OU’s Garett Reband and Rylee Reinertson share the lead at 141 (-3), while Riley Casey is in third at 140 (-2) one shot back. The event is being played the par-72, 6,902-yard Ocean Course at Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa.

Reband was the only player in the individual tournament to post a score under par on Monday, shooting 70 (-1). The sophomore overcame a slow start to birdie five of the final 11 holes during his round.

Reinertson posted a 73 (+1) to maintain a share of the lead heading into Tuesday’s final round. Casey is in sole possession of third place with a two-day score of 142 (-2) and recorded a 73 (+1) in the second round.
