PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Oklahoma softball team secured a perfect record at the GCU Kickoff Tournament with a 7-0 win over Pacific on Sunday.

OU’s 5-0 start to the season marks the first time the Sooners have won their first five games since 2015. Sunday’s win also marked OU’s third consecutive shutout, dropping the team's season ERA to 0.64. It outscored opponents 35-4 on the weekend.

Senior Kelsey Arnold led the Sooners with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring twice against Pacific (3-2). Lea Wodach was 1-for-1 on the day, producing a three-run home run in the second inning. Nicole Pendley and Caleigh Clifton both went 2-for-3 in the win.

Oklahoma opened scoring with five runs in the bottom of the second. Pendley and Clifton both singled to open the frame before Fale Aviu drew a walk to load the bases. Arnold singled to left center to drive in Pendley and Clifton.

Wodach followed with a three-run blast to left field, her 13th career home run, to put OU up 5-0.

The Sooners added a pair of insurance runs in the third and fourth innings. In the third, freshman Jocelyn Alo continued her strong opening weekend with a single to right. Two batters later, Alo scored on Clifton’s RBI double to right to extend the Sooners’ lead.

In the fourth, Arnold led off with an infield single then stole second and third on back-to-back pitches. The aggressive base running paid off as Sydney Romero’s sacrifice fly to center plated Arnold for OU’s final run of the day.

Paige Parker and Nicole Mendes combined for the shutout in the circle on Sunday. Parker, who started the game, threw five scoreless innings and recorded six strikeouts while allowing just one hit. Mendes closed the game, pitching the final two innings and surrendering two hits.

The Sooners are back in action on Feb. 16-17 as they travel to Las Cruces, N.M., for the Troy Cox Classic. OU will face Ball State and New Mexico State on Friday before taking on Boston and New Mexico State for a second time on Saturday.
