NORMAN — After another strong performance Saturday, Yul Moldauer has been named NCAA and MPSF Gymnast of the Week for the second time in as many weeks.
This marks the fourth time in the last two seasons that Moldauer has swept gymnast-of-the-week honors.
Moldauer competed in the all-around for the first time on Saturday and did not disappoint, posting a national-best 87.150. In addition to his impressive all-around score, the junior took home three event titles and led the top-ranked Sooners on all six events against No. 2 Nebraska and No. 4 Stanford.
In his first floor routine of the season, Moldauer paced the competition with a 14.400. He continued his dominance on still rings, where he won with a 14.600. The All-American picked up his final event title on parallel bars with a 14.900.
Moldauer’s efforts powered Oklahoma to the NCAA’s highest score so far this season, 418.000, and wins against two top-five opponents.
Early in the season, Moldauer finds himself in the top five nationally on five different events. He ranks first on parallel bars, second on still rings, third on floor, fourth on vault and fifth on pommel horse. With his impressive meet on Saturday, he also ranks first nationally in all-around.
The Sooners continue their home stand Saturday at 7 p.m. as they host No. 10 Iowa. The meet will serve as "Alumni Night," with about 45 men's gymnastics alumni scheduled to return to McCasland Field House to cheer on the Sooners.
