NORMAN – For the second week in a row, a trio of Oklahoma gymnasts swept the Big 12 weekly awards, the conference announced Monday.

Maggie Nichols (Gymnast of the Week) was honored for the third straight week, while Bre Showers (Newcomer of the Week) and Stefani Catour (Event Specialist of the Week) were honored for the first time this season. All three were instrumental in helping OU to yet another huge road score and a win over No. 4 UCLA.

Nichols dominated against No. 4 UCLA, taking home three event titles including the all-around in which she put up a 39.900, the highest score in the nation to date and just .025 off her career-high. Nichols was phenomenal throughout the meet putting up four scores of 9.95 or higher. The highlight of the meet came when she closed out on beam with her first perfect 10 of the season. Nichols now has eight perfect 10s and four on beam in her career. She also won the bars event title and shared beam with teammate Anastasia Webb and UCLA’s Peng Peng Lee. Nichols’ 10 on beam clinched the meet for OU as the Sooners needed at least a 9.975 to win.

Catour was steady in competition, helping the Sooners to victory with her scores on both bars and beam. On bars, she tallied a season-high 9.875 in the No. 3 spot. On beam, Catour was the leadoff gymnast as the final rotation began with both teams tied. Catour got the Sooners started strong with a career-high 9.950, helping OU to a new school record 49.775 on beam.

In her first season of competition for OU after being sidelined for the entire 2017 season with injury, Showers put together a solid performance for the Sooners against No. 4 UCLA. Showers led off on both floor and vault and all three of her scores counted toward the Sooners’ team scores. On vault, she secured a 9.850 on her Yurchenko full and earned a 9.825 on floor. Beam was the highlight of the night for Showers as she put together a near perfect routine in the No. 2 spot. Showers earned a career-high 9.975, including receiving a 10.0 from one of the judges.

The Sooners are back at Lloyd Noble Center Sunday, Feb. 11, as they take on North Carolina at 3:45 p.m. CT. Single-meet tickets are available for purchase online through SoonerSports.com or over the phone at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free at 800-456-GoOU.
