NORMAN — University of Oklahoma Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione announced Tuesday that head volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo has resigned.

Restrepo coached the Sooners for 14 seasons and amassed an overall record of 242-192. OU volleyball had its best run under Restrepo from 2006-14 with eight trips to the NCAA tournament over nine years, including appearances in the 2006 and 2010 Sweet 16.

"We sincerely thank Santiago for all of his efforts in building our volleyball program over the past 14 years," said Castiglione. "We've had more NCAA postseason appearances than any other time in our history and that will obviously serve as a great foundation upon which we can continue to build. We wish Santi the very best in the future. We look forward to seeing him at future volleyball matches."

In 20 years as a head coach, Restrepo owns a career 368-261 record. He was named the 2003 Conference USA Coach of the Year in his final season at Southern Miss, and was honored as the 2006 Big 12 Coach of the Year, AVCA Regional Coach of the Year and CVU.com National Coach of the Year in his third season at Oklahoma.

"I thank Joe Castiglione and (sport administrator) Greg Tipton for being so supportive of my career and the volleyball program," said Restrepo. "I also thank all of my assistant coaches, director of volleyball operations, support staff, fans and, most importantly, the players for their dedication to and growth of the sport and the program. It has been an amazing 14 years with the wonderful people at the University of Oklahoma who I consider family. I know that with the leadership in the athletic department the volleyball program will continue to grow."

Castiglione said the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
