IRVING, Texas – Seven student-athletes from the University of Oklahoma volleyball team were honored as Academic All-Big 12 selections by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. All seven Sooners earned First Team recognition with a 3.20 or better grade-point average. Oklahoma’s seven First Team members were also tied for the second most in the entire league.
Five Sooners are repeat First Team honorees, including senior defensive specialist Emma Kelly (Houston, Texas). Kelly, an energy management major, has played in 94 of 95 sets in her final season and averages 1.87 digs per set after beating her career-high in Oklahoma’s two most recent matches. Redshirt-junior libero Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) is majoring in communications and is second on the OU team with 2.71 digs to go with 0.58 assists per set.
Juniors Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.), Madison Drescher (Southlake, Texas) and Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) round of the Sooners’ two-time selections. Alford, a psychology major and the OU setter, averages 9.36 assists and 1.95 digs per set. Drescher is second on the team with 2.98 kills per set, while majoring in business. Enneking is majoring in management and leads the Big 12 with 198 kills in conference play, while averaging a team-high 4.10 kills and 2.96 digs per set overall.
Oklahoma’s first-time Academic All-Big 12 honorees are redshirt-junior middle blocker Leslie Atherton (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore outside hitter Erin Dibble (Frisco, Texas). Atherton, who is in her final season as a Sooner, is a health and exercise science major averaging 0.69 blocks and 0.61 kills per set. Dibble, a chemical engineering major and recipient of the Student Leadership Award from the 2017 Women of Color STEM Conference, has contributed 1.11 kills and 0.51 blocks per set off the bench.
